The Harlem Renaissance was successful because it brought the Black experience into the American culture history. The Harlem Renaissance redefined how the U.S and the world would view the African-American population. As African-Americans moved to the North, the image of African Americans changed also. African-Americans were viewed as rural and uneducated, however with the migration to the north, the image changed to that of an urban and sophisticated view. This change also brought notice to African-Americans on the world stage.
Harlem, with its urban setting was a main location for African-Americans to appreciate the backgrounds of all black life and culture. The Harlem renaissance encouraged these roots and culture. While sharing these cultural experiences with each other, a form of united racial unity became possible.
