·         The last American artist of African descent to receive sustained mainstream recognition in the U.S

·         His success came at the early age of 24, and lasted almost uninterrupted until his death in June 2000

Clark McKay (1890-1948)

·         An American Poet and novelist

·         Best remembered for his poems treating racial themes

·         McKay was involved in radical political activities

 

Aaron Douglas (1898-1979)

·         He painted murals of public buildings and produced illustrations and cover designs for many black politicians
